Kasa Specific Objective

Civil society and media organizations, in a concerted effort, advocate for equitable access, accountability, and transparency in natural resource and environmental governance.

Main Strategies:

1. Promote evidence-based research and advocacy on NREG policy matrices, targets and NRE issues in general

·    Share information on NREG programme and its policy matrices widely
·    Facilitate broad consultations and forums for discussions on civil society engagement in NREG
·    Facilitate information-sharing platforms between stakeholders in the sub-sectors of forestry, mining, environment on NREG Programme activities and issues

2. Manage and disburse grants

·    Provide project grant funding to a limited number of emerging civil society,  research organizations and media to conduct advocacy or research activities in selected thematic areas in the NRE sector (criteria-based funding mechanism with independent assessment of up to 30,000 Euros per year)
·    Provide core funding to a limited number of existing CSOs and coalitions, to sustain and develop evidence-based activities promoting good governance in the NRE sector (criteria based funding mechanism with independent assessment of up to 50,000 Euros per year)

3. Strengthen capacities and learning mechanisms

·    Provide capacity building support to a limited number of CSOs to meet technical and organizational capacity needs and to media houses in NRE and Environmental journalism
·    Support research and learning events for a limited number of CSOs and media organizations in evidence-based advocacy and other priority areas

4. Document lessons learned from Kasa

·    Consult with coalitions, CSOs, the media and other relevant stakeholders to solicit input and suggestions for the longer-term civil society mechanism
·    Document lessons learned from Kasa implementation in advocacy
