Welcome to KasaPoverty Reduction through Civil Society Advocacy in Natural Resource and Environmental Governance in Ghana
Kasa is a Natural Resource and Environment(NRE) sector specific civil society support mechanism in Ghana. Kasa, designed with initial inputs from civil society, is a two-year pilot project supporting civil society, research and media organisations to advocate, in a concerted effort, for equitable access, accountability, and transparency in natural resource and environmental governance. Kasa builds on and strengthens existing non-state actors’ coalitions and experiences and seeks to promote direct engagement between Ghanaian civil society organizations, the media and government at all levels. Initiated by CARE International, ICCO and SNV, the major donors are CARE and the Royal Netherlands Embassy. The total budget of the project is 1.954.121 euro of which 50% are direct grants to non state actors. Kasa is managed by a project management team comprised of a project manager, a capacity building advisor, a communication officer, a monitoring and evaluation advisor, a grants manager and an administrative secretary. Strategic and technical direction is ensured by consortium members from ICCO, SNV and CARE. A steering committee composed of three government representatives from relevant ministries (Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources; Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning; Environmental Protection Agency), the Royal Netherlands Embassy and the consortium members, ensures fair and transparent grant decision- making processes as well as strategic oversight in line with current developments in Ghana.
