How Kasa Works

Kasa works with four major strategic directions:  

  1. Promote evidence-based research and advocacy on natural resource and environmental governance policies and natural resource and environment issues in general  
     
    ·  Share information on natural resource and environmental governance sector budget support and its underpinning policies 

    ·  Facilitate broad consultations and forums for discussions on civil society engagement on natural resource and environment issues 

    ·  Facilitate information-sharing platforms between stakeholders in the sub-sectors of forestry, mining, environment on natural resource and environmental governance sector budget support and broader  natural resource and environmental governance issues  
     
    2) Manage and disburse grants 
     
    ·  Provide project grant funding to emerging and established civil society,  research organizations and the media to conduct advocacy or research activities in selected thematic areas in natural resource and environment (This is a criteria-based funding mechanism with independent assessment and an amount not exceeding  30,000 Euros per year per grant)

    ·  Provide core funding to a number of civil society organizations and coalitions, to sustain and develop evidence-based activities promoting good governance in the natural resource and environment sector (This is a criteria based funding mechanism with independent assessment and an amount not exceeding 50,000 Euros per year per grant) 
     
    3) Strengthen capacities and learning mechanisms 
     
    ·  Provide capacity building support to civil society organizations to meet technical and organizational capacity needs and to media houses in natural resource and environmental journalism

    ·  Support research and learning events for civil society organizations and media organizations in evidence-based advocacy and other priority areas 
     
    4) Document lessons learned from Kasa  
     
    ·  Consult with coalitions, civil society, the media and other relevant stakeholders to solicit input and suggestions for a longer-term sector specific civil society support mechanism in the natural resource and environment sector
     
    ·  Document lessons learned from Kasa implementation in advocacy
