This year, Kasa partnered with UK-Ghana Gold programme to implement the 15th annual NRE sector review forum which had participation from state and non-state actors. Under the theme:confronting the scourge of illegal mining; required policy change and the role of political commitment, the seven Kasa coalitions converged to present their findings. For two days on 3rd and 4th December 2024, participants from member coalitions converged with updates, research material and policy reform proposals. Kasa Initiative Ghana is a platform for Civil society Organisations working in water, mining, fisheries, land, climate change and environment, forestry and oil and gas. Kasa with support from well constituted coalitions is able to engage stakeholders and influence policy processes by offering valuable recommendations informed by its interactions with various actors and communities. The NRE Forum then offers a chance for all coalitions to not only update each other on various initiatives undertaken but also address stakeholders in unison. The 15TH Forum’s aim was to shed light on the ravages of illegal mining on various aspects of day to day life such as availability of water and impacts of climate change. To this effect, Kasa initiative Ghana organized its 14th CSOs annual natural resources and environment review forum which engaged CSOs in Natural Resources, Environmental governance and climate change thematic areas. The forum offered a platform for CSOs to outline related sector priorities and recommendations for sustainable development that would be incorporated into political party manifestos going into the election 2024.
- [Environment Manifesto 2024](https://www.kasaghana.org/environment-manifesto-2024): Ghana’s once vibrant socio-ecological landscapes, characterized by pristine river basins, expansive forest cover in both reserved and non reserved areas, flourishing marine ecosystems, and thriving wetlands, peatlands, and mangroves, are currently facing an unprecedented level of depletion. A critical state previously unforeseen in Ghana’s history poses significant threat to the nation’s socio-economic development, which is heavily reliant on its natural resources. The World Bank’s 2020 Country Environment Analysis report has underscored the pivotal role natural resources play in Ghana’s economic growth. However, the report also emphasizes that unchecked environmental unsustainability could impede this growth. The evidence of such unsustainability is glaringly manifesting in the destruction of forests, land, and water. The destructions are due to unregulated mining practices, disregarding existing safeguards for community needs and lacking effective enforcement and compliance measures. This has resulted in a substantial loss of water provisioning services, giving rise to health issues in mining communities, negatively impacting downstream water users, and exposing people to contaminated foods and lands.

- [CSOs Engagement On Green Agenda Towards Election 2024 In Ghana](https://www.kasaghana.org/csos-engagement-on-green-agenda-towards-election-2024-in-ghana): A Forum for CSOs in the Natural Resource and Environment (NRE) sector that provided unique opportunity for participants to identify and draft priority issues on the various NRE thematic areas for influencing political manifestos for 2024 elections.  Participants were grouped into the seven thematic areas namely Forest Watch Ghana, CSOs Alliance on Mining, CSOs Coalition on Land (CICOL), CSOs Platform on Oil and Gas, Climate Change and Environment Coalition, Coalition of NGOs in Water and Sanitation (COLIWAS), and CSOs Fisheries Alliance.  From previous manifestos of the two major political parties (NPP and NDC), each group was tasked to identify the NRE priority issues and suitable solutions.  The groups presented their work to all participants for comments and suggestions.  The final presentations would be collated into one document. The Document would be launched and presented to the various political parties for incorporation into their manifestos towards the 2024 elections.

The Part 5 of the New EPA Bill was shared among the groups for review and feedback.  Each group was assigned approximately seven Sections of the Bill, covering Section 143 to Section 173. The comments, contributions and suggestions which form the outcome of the discussions would be collated and submitted to EPA.
